December 2007 - Quick questions ...

Does Ayurvedic nutrition involve being vegetarian?

My response: no, Ayurveda does not actually say that you should be vegetarian. It is more about being conscious about what you are eating in relation to what your activity is. Meat is intrinsically heavy and requires a lot of energy to digest. Traditional nutritional systems, like the Chinese and Ayurveda, have used meat as a quick way to build strength in tissues. The brunch workshop I offer is vegetarian because I am vegetarian and because I want to show how vegetarian food can offer a lighter alternative to a meat-based diet. It can support those recovering from illness in their recovery.

How can we incorporate the ideas of good nutrition in our daily busy lives?

Gaining knowledge and developing an awareness by reading, attending workshops are important steps. The following article also can give useful ideas:

Healthy and fast

As does my e-book Plans for dinner

Ultimately, though, the answer lies in raising awareness (see article Balanced when busy ) to realise that time is a relative concept.

Remember, i t's the festive season so please do:

  • Savour each mouthful of food
  • Enjoy every sip of your favourite beverage (if it's alcohol, remember to follow each glass with a glass of still water)
  • Decide to draw pleasure from at least one activity a day (all if possible) during this period!
